There they were, sitting at a restaurant for lunch. Mrs. Johnson was out to eat on a Sunday afternoon with her three sons. They sad and bowed their heads, praying and giving thanks for the food they were given. As they prayed, the two older boys saw a pretty walk into the restaurant. Their attention was now all on this girl, they put their heads up and stared at her across the room. This was the typical Johnson Sunday afternoon, they would all go out to eat as a family, and of course, the two older boys would always look at the girls.

McCarthyism Impact on Society: The practice of faulty accusations without proper evidence is McCarthyism. This started with Senator Joseph McCarthy. During this time, many thousands of Americans were charged of being Communist.

Communist Witch Hunt & Impact on Accused: This was the Second Red Scare which brought many accusations of people being communist. People who were accused lost their job and went to trail and put in jail.

Space Race & Impact on Government Policies: A race between USA and Soviet Union to see who would get a satellite into space first. Soviet Union won and put Sputnik up in October 1957. In 1969 Niel Armstrong was put on the moon!

U.S Cold War Mindset: The mind set was to prevent attack. We wanted to play it safe. US vowed they would be the best, and would prevent the soviets from attacking us in any way.

Suburbs, Automobiles & Roads: American families were now able to move into the "American Dream" homes. Many highways were built to link the suburbs to the city. The houses were a single family home, and families were now able to own up to two cars instead of one car.

Baby Boom: The Baby Book occurred from from 1950 through 1955. This was when all the soldiers from World War II. These soldiers wanted to create their own families, and now could financially support them. About 7 babies were born approximately every second in the USA, during the peak of the Baby Boom.

Urban-Suburban Pattern: In the city was the low income families. In the suburbs was the middle income families, and in the outter suburbs was the higher income families. The farther out you went, the less houses there would be. They would also typically get larger.

G.I Bill: A bill that grants soldiers a set amount of money to return to school. The bill can also be passed down to any family member. You have ten years to use this bill.

Expansion of Middle Class & Product Affordability: After World War II, the economy was back up, and more jobs were available, thus causing more people to make more money. This caused the middle class to grow.

Role of Women: Replaced mens' jobs. Worked at factories. Supported Family. Nurses.

Atomic Bomb Cause & Effect: The bomb was dropped to prevent a loss of thousands of American lives if we were to invade Japan. The effects would be the death of over 160,000 people, and long term radiation effects.

Purpose of Propaganda: Encourage men to join the war, to fight for their nation. Encouraged the sales of bonds to financially support the war.

Effects of the war at Europe: Territories changed, a single currency for all of Europe. The UN was formed for security reason.

Japanese Internment: Put Japanese-Americans in prison camps. Japs were thought to be spies and could help the Jap empire defeat us.

Rationing: Would eat less in order to have more food for the soldiers. Encouraged civilians to use less of Rubber, Oil, and Metal because these supplies were very important to make Military Equipment.

Results of WWII: Brought the economy back to life. Suburbs. Baby boom. Technology.

Effects of Pearl Harbor attack: Allowed us to enter WWII. Jap-Americans were now mistreated.

US Foreign Policy before, during, and after the war: Before, the same 2% rate of diversity, during, took in too many Jews and then turned away the rest, after accepting more Europeans

WW II Timeline

My question to a Holocaust victim

The person I chose to ask questions to is Herman Klein. Herman Klein went through the Holocaust, he was at a very young age when this happened. He was born in 1928 and was one of eight children.
So my questions to Herman would be:
1: As you were being transferred to Dachau, how high were your hopes that you might get liberated some day?
2. Did you ever contemplate the thought of suicide just to rid the horrid experiences, to stop all the torture? If so, what kept you from committing it?
3. Did the Nazi's deceive you to get you to go to the ghettos? Did they tell you you were going to a perfect place, much better than your current location? If not, in what way did they round up everyone?
4. Were you ever able to see your family again? How often throughout the day did they cross your mind? Did it ever occur to you that they might have been killed at the camps, and you were the last one of your family alive?
5. At such a young age, how difficult was it for you to complete the labor?
6. If you were given the chance, would you torture one of the men that made you go through all that suffering, or would you rather not and just let him be?

Very useful WW II artifact

World War II was filled with very useful equipment. The piece of equipment I chose to look up was a Camo Rifle Bag a German Paratrooper would usually have. The bag prevented the rifle from snagging onto the parachute typically. It also prevented the gun barrel from getting wet, which could case the gun to jam. A jamming gun is no good in the middle of a gun fight! Below is a picture.
