Wikileaks to create a war between nations?

     While Wikileaks (a non-profit organization) is trying to keep the government of several countries transparent to each other country, they could cause a war between nations. Wikileaks has released over 300,000 classified documents out to the public. These include documents of soldiers "accidentally" killing civilians, or government strategy.
     Though a transparent nation sounds ideal, as we would know everything our government is up to, it is better that they in fact, keep everything in a secret, or classified. Most people argue that our government hides too much from us, keeping missions covert. This is done for the better good. While they keep everything a secret, the Gov. knows what they are doing.
     Wikileaks however is at the other end of the pole. They believe a Gov. Should be 100% honest and should tell us everything. This is false. If a Gov. did this, we would be a weak nation, as we would have people that listen to our war strategies, and then go and counter said war strategy.
     I watched a video, that people went through documents that were released. In these documents, it said that over 300,000 people have been killed in Baghdad while the United States of America has been trying to give them freedom. The hard truth? These documents revealed over two thirds (2/3) of the total kill count have been civilians, leaving only one-third (1/3) to be actual insurgents. If i recall, giving a nation freedom does not include killing a mass majority of the civilians.
     Now that we know what we are actually doing over there, it is hard to trust our Gov. This is quiet sad, as we should be able to trust the United States Gov. in whatever they do. By keeping our knowledge restricted to what we know about the war going on, it keeps us at peace. We believe the military is doing the right thing.
     One of the videos Wikileaks exposed was of an Apache Helicopter, and the gunner was shooting down what he thought to be Insurgents with RPGs. Turns out to be, these people were News Reporters. What they had strapped to them were cameras. Of course this was frowned upon, since he killed innocent civilians, but what if it really was an Insurgent with an RPG, and had fired a missile in the Apache? The pilots, gunners, and a few other on board, would have lost their lives. Keep in mind, these are our people, so having to lose a couple lives is very sad to us.
     To conclude, Wikileaks should not be revealing all this information. This non-profit organization could end u in possibly causing a World War III, or a Nuclear Weapon War. Keeping our Government non-transparent is the best idea, as we have trust that they are doing what is best for us, the people.

I captured some Insurgents?...!

     Insurgents should be treated right i believe. Since we found materials to make IEDs, I would try to make them speak. So first I would try the torture methods that are allowed, such as water boarding, or to extend their arms towards a wall while we Pimp slap their stomach with the back out our hands. We could also mess them up Psychologically but that would require too much time, and we need to find the main location ASAP.
     If i chose to do illegal torture methods, My team and I could end up dishonorably discharged perhaps. We could also be charged with jail. We would also make ourselves seem as the bad guys, though we are doing it for the greater good of everyone.

     I believe the tone for US's declaration of of war was a bit calm and defensive. The US wanted to keep themselves at the top. The word Imperial is shown very large, so it might be that we wanted to keep our selves from someone else ruling us. We wanted to defend ourselves. The Germans response could of been that they were going to bring a blockade to England to block off their supply of food and weapons. They also could of said something about submarine warfare.

CoD falsey portraying a true front-line soldiers life...

     Call of Duty, one of the world's best selling First Person Shooter video game franchises. Of course there are many more but this is the main game. These video games portray a soldiers life to be quiet easy. Of course, their life is not very easy at all, especially when it involves a front-line soldier.
     To start everything off, Yes I do believe video games such as Call of Duty that portray war and a soldiers life should be allowed to exist. Video game designers actually try to make the video game as "realistic" as possible. If you read the reviews these creaters write out to their public, then you would see how hard they try to make it as realistic.
     Though there is no reset button in a soldier's life in war, there has to be one in the game. How mad would you be if you bought the game for $60, and then you get through the first couple objectives in a mission, and then you die knowing you only had one life throughout the whole game? Well there goes your one life, go pick up another copy for another $60 to get a new soldier and a new life. Lives are put into the game to give players the re-playability factor. Meaning they could play the hours on end while dying tens to hundreds of times, but we still enjoy the game!
     There are things included in these games that make it very unrealistic aswell. Some of these things are called "Perks." Perks give you an extra advantage towards your enemy. Some of these are "marathon" where you can sprint for as long as you can hold that button down. You can sprint as long as you desire, that is very unrealistic. Some soldiers carry half their body weight in their bags, making it very unlikely for someone to sprint FOREVER. Another perk is "stopping power." Oh this is everyone's favorite as it makes your bullets magically more powerful. This allows for a gun to kill in two bullets instead of 3 to 5 bullets. What soldier would not want for their guns to be that powerful! Very unrealistic! The last perk which just makes me mad to think about how fake it is is a perk called "cold-blooded." Basically, your soldier somehow mutates and now has cold blood, making thermal scopes, Apache Helicopters, enemy Spy Planes, completely useless, as these can only detect 'Human' warm blood. So basically you are a reptile in a human body. Yup, very unrealistic aswell.
     Though these unrealistic things are put into the game, it allows the game to become much funner. These perks allow for players to use them to create new strategies, and play more strategically to get behind their enemy.
     These games are very enjoyable. Though they do diminish the reality, it creates a product of enjoyment for everyone. I once played with a friend, and his friends. They happened to be soldiers as well. They all told me how they play the game to create strategies. while they played, they talked to each other in the military lingo. Saying "tango on your left flank" which would mean "enemy to your left side."
     Some other games though, such as Medal of Honor, are extremely realistic. The weapons do the damage they are supposed to do, and there is not as much unrealistic things put into the game. They also put into the game how you can destroy buildings. In Call of Duty you put a RPG missile into the side of a building, and the wall will stay intact, with only black stain on it, which disappears about a minute or two after it hits. While in Model of Honor, you put a Missile into the side of a building, and the wall crumbles and explodes, now leaving a big hole into the side of the building.
     To conclude, Yes games that portray war should be allowed to exist. They provide a sense of enjoyment. Though they diminish a front-line soldiers life, they are still and will continue to be one of the world's best series of games.

A pilot's thoughts....

A pilot must live a horrible life. No offense to any pilots of WWI, but these planes were just the most horrible design to fight. A pilot must be thinking of his family as he gets into a dogfight, whether he will be the top dog, or end up on the land next to all the rubble of his shot down plane. He must be really nervous, if he is religious, he must be praying, doing a couple Hail Mary's or any other prayers to ask god to keep him alive, to let him have another flight, and let him land safely to reunite with his family. These pilots were brave men. Most probably knew they were most likely to end up dead, but they still continued. A pilot has alot to think about in those last instances.

Death Causing Factors

Galipolli is a movie that shows how World War I was. As seen in the trailer of remake of the original, you see many mortar explosions. I believe most deaths were caused by mortars. In the trailer, trenches are shown as soldiers are running through them. In the trailer the diseases are not shown, but the truth is, a wide selection of deaths came form these trenches, all the disease and infection that was stuck down there. They were basically standing in their grave. Towards the ending of the trailer, a very large machine gun is shown, these guns were made to take down waves of enemies, wave after wave, meaning it could kill hundreds in minutes.

Imperialism shown through the movie Troy.

Imperialism is commonly seen today throughout the world. Imperialism is when a strong nation oppresses a weaker nation and takes over them either politically or economically, sometimes a nation can have an influence with both.

            Imperialism is shown in the epic movie, Troy. As Prince Paris, Prince of Troy, kidnaps Queen Helen, Queen of Sparta, a great war is started. As soon as King Menelaus, King of Sparta, discovers his wife has been kidnapped he prepares his army and sets out to Troy to get back his wife and destroy Troy. In order to win the fight, King Menelaus knows he will need the help of Achilles, a godlike mortal who is also the best warrior known throughout the land.  When King Hector discovers his brother Paris has kidnapped Queen Helen he lets his father, King Prium know that soon King Menelaus will attack Troy.  To build a stronger army, King Menelaus asks his brother King Agamemnon to unite their tribes to defeat and conquer Troy.  In truth, Agamemnon's pursuit of honor is corrupted by his overwhelming greed - he needs control of Troy to ensure the supremacy of his already vast empire.  King Menelaus is challenged by Prince Paris to have a duel, during the duel Paris is hurt and has to be saved by his brother Hector who then fights the battle for him and kills King Menelaus.  When the Spartans arrive at Troy they know that in order to breach the walls of Troy they will need to have a plan that will destroy Troy from the inside first.  The Spartans designs a plan with a large, wooden horse which will contain Spartan soldiers  inside, which will come out when they arrive inside the city and then will open the drawbridge to let the rest of the soldiers in. The Spartans then seize Troy and destroy it.

            Imperialism ties into this movie because one nation is trying to take another nations empire. All over pride and dignity, which is a common reason in today's world, whether it be a big country taking over a smaller country, or a smaller company being over powered by a larger one and being bought out. In this movie, imperialism is shown when Troy is over taken by the Spartans. The Spartans take over for political reason, to get the people of Troy out of power.

North Korea as always, has had South Korea at pressure. Just recently, North Koreans have fires at South Korean guards on guard post in the North Korean/South Korean border.
This is an example because North Koreans are trying to take over the South Korea politically and have a major military influence over them.

Work work work.

It has been a week since i got here. The labor is difficult. Everyday there are a couple of men who die. Most of the deaths account for my kind, black West Indians. People are too harsh. They mistreat us, and make us work harder than the other minorities. Sometimes I even forget what it is what I am working for, I just need the money, even if they pay poorly for such hard labor. The days routine is as followed, wake up by sunrise, and start working. We eat little by little. We stop working a couple hours after the sun goes down, it seems as if we only get three or five hours of sleep. People all around us are sick. They are throwing up, getting nauseous, and their body temperature is burning up. I just hope that this job does not take my life.

Why not?

The SOA is a American school located in Fort Benning, Georgia. This school trains Latin-American soldiers. What they train for is a good purpose though. They are trained to go and take over a country that is a potential threat to us. They are trained to take over a country by having a political and economical influence. By having either one or both of these influences, we are able to reduce the threat, and install a Pro-American way of lifestyle to these countries.

Exaggerations...

Yellow Journalism is an exaggerated story that causes for people to be more attracted to the topic. Many news headlines 'exaggerate' their title. The purpose of this is to attract viewer attention. The current news headline "U.S. Embassy: Beijing air quality is 'crazy bad'." When you first read the title, you think the air smells and people just can't handle it. Truth is,  there is a thick haze over Beijing. Most of it is caused by burning coal. The air quality is at 310 which is way above it should be. Here in America, if the Air quality is over 240, schools are asked to cancel outdoor activities, and sometimes they might even cancel that school day.

Agree to the system :)

     Oh blogger, you are so great! You make me have less hand pains caused from all that writing with pen and paper.
     I really enjoy this system. Doing work over the computer is so much better. I prefer to be told by a teacher to write a six hundred word assignment on a blog than to be told to write six hundred word assignment on pen and paper.
     I agree with this blogger system because, it gives a twist to the educational system. It keeps it fun and interactive. Well atleast for those who have the ability to get onto a computer and type their ideas related to the topic at hand.
     I also like how the topics are not like "Tell me why this event happened?"
     I like how you made it so creative. How we can talk about our opinions, let our minds do the talking instead of the text books. With these blogs you have to put some time and effort to really get your point across.
There is also this really nice thing that lets you view other students blogs. With this you can see how you can improve your writing. Or if you are bored and want to read your best friends thoughts related to the blog questions, go right ahead and do it! It is as simple as a click away!
     Doing blogs for homework also allows you to think more. The questions are not all that easy. It requires some thought. Of course, some blog topics may be easier than others, but all of them require a well given answer.
     I also like how you give us several topics to chose from. You give us three to four, but you pick to choose which one. The one you have more interest in, that is the one you write about!
    The other good this is that you do not give us a short amount of time to do it in. I like how you give us a whole week before we get a whole new set of blog topics, it is awesome.
     Now, writing on pen and paper can be tiring, cant it? That is why i like this system so much!!

   Pen and paper is so dull! All other classes require you to do this. It does not really add to the effort you put into your work. If you get three assignments one night, and all of them are to write a paper, chances are, you will not write at the best of your ability. Also, when you write with pen and pencil so much, you get these annoying and painful hand pains and cramps! UGHHH!
     With everything online it is like nearly impossible to get a hand cramp from typing! Unless you are a speed demon and type five hundred words per minute. Then maybe you might just get hand pain from typing.

     The Blogger system makes everything so much better, and more exciting. You look forward to doing your best on the assignments and put some taught into them. With this, you can fully write to your fullest.

Change Childrens Education

Children should not be taught the lies they are currently being taught. They should not know the complete truth, but they should not be lied to, and made believe a complete different story that did not happen.
An example would be teaching children about the Indians. Currently children are being taught that the Native Americans and the white men were best friends! How weird is that?! Instead of being told that, they should be told that the white men did not like them at all. They should leave out the "bad" details.As they years pass, you build on more to that information.
Its like when you are in first grade and you are being taught simple arithmetic. You start off by just knowing your addition. Simple addition of course. Then as time progresses you start to add more and more to it. Such as double digit addition and then you get to three digits and above! Then from there you do multiplication and division. You should just add on more to the current knowledge.
So I believe that is what teachers should do.
They should tell them we were not to nice to them in kinder-garden and grade one.
Then by grade five you could add in that there was a couple wars with them about land. By grade eight, they should be big boys and big girls and be able to handle the facts. That the white men would scalp the Indians, and rape the women and what not.
So yes, change the way children are being taught now. They should grow up believing the truth, and not a life of misconception that has been going on for years now.

History Matters!!!

History is such an important subject. History tells us of the stories from our past. What good people have done to help a nation out, or what bad a nation has done to another. Without history we would not care one but for this Country. I feel as if history makes us who we are today, the previous men and women have shaped out the future for us, and created in what we live today.
History helps keep track of all events. As it is often said "History often repeats itself." So if we study history, we can see what is coming our way and prepare for it.

Learning made different.

My learning was completely different to writing on blog as opposed to writing on paper. Online i feel like i can do so much more, and write so much better, im not the best writer out there so it helps alot. When it comes to writing on the paper, It takes me awhile longer to process thoughts and actually write it down.
On pen and paper I feel as if i am being restricted, and will be forced to write less. I also get tired of writing on paper, so having assignments being done via blogs is perfect, as I type faster than i write and its a complete different feel.

My favorite blog topic was: "History is the lie commonly agreed upon." What did Voltaire mean by this quote?.
This topic made me think alot about my response. I enjoyed writing for this topic because it is the truth, History is the lie most commonly agreed upon.  It was also a little controversial you could say, as many people had different perspectives as to why it is a lie.

Oh how happy to live the American Dream

From the photos on the website you can get alot of different facial expressions by the way they took their photos. A mother a three daughter were "specially" dressed for their arriving. Must have thought it was a perfect life here?
Another couple men, were all dressed nicely, a tie, a dress shirt, dress pants, hair combed. They seemed to positive, that their life was going to be great.
As these people came into Ellis Island, they came into this beautiful place. The saw how perfect it was, and pictured that all of the Unites States of America would be this way. Perfect.
They were wrong. They experienced dirty cities, roads were filled with waste, etc.
Almost all were dressed really fancy or nicely at arrival.

Workers life for me♫

In "The song of the shirt" a textile worker's life is very well portrayed. The song itself talk of long and sleepless days of work. So long that your eyelids shut, and your dreams include you sewing that shirt. The women poor, hungry, and exhausted. The song makes it seem as if, they work all day for twenty-four hours for seven days a week. Their life must of been short. If you work all day, you age faster. They do not fear death as they think humans are so cheap and replaceable.

Portrayal of Cowboys

     The stereotypical cowboy  as portrayed by Hollywood is one who wear a cowboy hat, has a do-rag, carries a magnum (hand gun), and a rope to use as a lasso. This in fact, is how Hollywood has portrayed them, and has made us believe what this is actually what they looked like.
     The real cowboy had so much to them other than what they carried or looked like. They had to go through a tough life and many struggles. Cowboys were not just born from one day to the other. They needed to have some sort of power.
      A cowboy was not just some big masculine guy who would accomplish everything in his way. A cowboy was someone who worked very diligently and worked very hard. A cowboy had a tough lifestyle. He did not just ride around in his horse, shooting people, doing draws and fighting over a woman at the town saloon. A cowboy would work just as hard as anyone else. He would have to herd his cattle, which would be a very difficult task, which would require much time and patience as the cattle's movement was unpredictable.
     Cowboys in the 1800's were very responsible. They would work all day to be able to have enough money to buy food for himself and his family. He would also be involved with agricultural work that made him very tired. He would have to be able to take care of his horse, because what is a cowboy without his horse? If you said nothing, then you in fact are correct. Without his horse, he would not be able to accomplish his tasks. He would not be able to travel long distances or herd his cattle or do basic agricultural work. 
     A cowboy had a very rough lifestyle. They were not given anything. They were not handed jobs, they had to go seek them. This means, they had to go from town to town seeking for a job. This trip could take hours on a horse, just as it could take days. The climate was dry, causing De-hydration to be a major problem to them. Horses would be weakened and get sick. The man himself might get as sick as well. If he ended up sick, who knew what would happen to him? No one. There was no urgent medical help. He had to wait it out, his body would be the factor that chose life or death. He has to lay down and rest, many times they would end up dead, as diseases were too strong to be conquered, and in such conditions it was hard for a cowboy to get back up on his feet in perfect health. He had to work diligently to be able to get his food at the end of the day. If he had no task that day, guess what? He did not get to eat that night. Cowboys did not have a settled place to stay at. They would have to reside in motels most of the time. Sleeping in dirty beds. Beds where there could have been a human with a severe disease. Dirty sheets never to be cleaned.

     Of course Cowboys needed to have their fun too! They deserved it after so many days of cruel, time taking, rough work. They would usually go to a saloon grab a drink with his good buddy and tell stories! This was what they enjoyed most, telling their stories, of their travels, of their hard life. There would also be Rodeos where they would have many "cowboy" activities. This could be like who could lasso a cattle the best or just plain horse shows. They enjoyed playing cards.
     So please, Hollywood, If you are going to tell a story tell it right. Don't deceive us. We want 100% truth! Cowboys were alot more than a tall masculine guy. He was someone who deserved the title as a cowboy. Someone who deserved respect. So next time you watch a Hollywood movie, do not believe them, do your research and you will see that how they portray that character is COMPLETELY wrong. The real thing is actually a whole lot more interesting

Oregon trail, the game and its tie with learning

    After playing Oregon Trail for 30 minutes, I got the knowledge of what it was to go through that experience.
I played as a Farmer, a poor guy traveling with 4 other people. All you got was $800 to make the trip. What i learned from this was, how tough it actually was to make the trip in such little amount of money. You had to buy food by the pound, enough for all five of your crew, you had to buy repairs for your wagon, the ox to pull it, and repairs and clothing.  You go through your crew members dying, one of you ox breaking a foot, hunting, visiting towns and villages, and even getting snake bites.
     The game teaches you the rough times they went through. It really is a learning experience. It even gives you the days travelled and how many miles till you reach your next location.

Treatment of African Americans throughout time.

     African Americans have been treated roughly throughout the years. African Americans were treated both equally and differently during the reconstruction and the Civil Right Movement.
     During the Reconstruction, African Americans were now declared "free" under the 13th amendment. Although this became a law, alot of whites still practiced slavery. African Americans were also given the chance to live on a piece of their 'master's' plantation, but they would have to work on it, and grow crops, and then pay the owners, their own share which was usually half of the total original crop. This meant that if they planted two thousand crops of corn or cotton, and they lost one thousand of the crops due to bad soil or weather, than the African American, would have to pay the owner the one thousand left over, and he would be stuck with no crops at the end of it. Under the 15th amendment, men gained voting rights. Yes this did include black males, but however, the southern states found a way to get around it. The amendment states, "The right of citizens of the United States to vote shall not be denied or abridged by the United States or by any state on account of race, color, or previous condition of servitude." The south got around the amendment by adding literacy test, or tests of many sorts. These test were inserted because the white knew that they would not be able to pass the test, as they were illiterate. During the Reconstruction, the African Americans were still treated the same. They were viewed as unequal, inferior, and less potent than white Americans. They were technically 'denied' the right to vote, they were unable to attend school with white people, and they were LOWLY paid.
     In the Civil Rights movements in 1950's and 1960's changed the United State's history as we know it. African Americans were still mistreated by this time. Although, they could attend the same schools as American children, they had to use everything separately. African Americans had water fountains labeled "Blacks", they had bathrooms that were "Blacks" only. They were not offered the same education as American children. African Americans got the old ripped and torn books, the books that were barely usable. The only thing they had in common was the clothes they wore everyday. They all had to wear the same uniform. This made every single one appear as equal and not inferior or superior because of the way one dressed. In the 1950's and 1960's many African Americans changed everything for every African American to come after them. For example, Martin Luther King Jr, he was a pacifist who would publicly speak to change Americas view on African Americans, he spoke to gain the rights they deserved. How did he die? He was murdered. Murdered while he was walking out of where he had given a speech. Another example, Malcom X, a Civil Rights Leader, who was not a Pacifist. He was murdered aswell, but by men of his own group because Malcom changed his viewpoints. Rosa Parks is also a perfect example. She was thrown in jail numerous times for simply being black and sitting in front of the bus. Blacks were discriminated against, and had to sit in the back of the bus, if they did not obey, they ended up like Rosa Parks, in jail. Both men and women alike, were lynched, not only hung, but tortured. They were blasted with fire hoses with several thousands PPI (Pounds of Pressure per Inch.) Skin would literally be torn and ripped off because of such high pressure from the water.

Education for former slaves.

Former slaves had the right to study. After they were granted "freedom", the former slaves could go to school. They always ended up with the bad things. They didn't have the new books the whites had, they did not have the supplies needed. All were viewed as a lesser person than the whites.

Most colleges would not accept African Americans, and they were not given the chance. People did not trust them to give them a job after their education. Very few colleges accepted former slaves.

South granted amnesty.

During the Reconstruction, i believe the south should have been granted amnesty. If the south had not been granted amnesty, the nation might have stayed divided. Although the South felt offended, it was the best decision the North could have made. By forgiving all of their troubles, they could start from new, and begin a nation, a nation that is now together.

Lincoln's unequal view of African Americans.

Abraham's concern was more focused towards conserving the Union because he wanted to keep whites in power. He said that he did not want African Americans to hold office or to have any power.
Lincoln did not view African Americans as equal in any way. When he signed the Emancipation Proclamation, it stated that all slaves were to be freed. This did nothing though, the south had already seceded.
Lincoln wanted to preserve the Union because he did not want other countries to look at us like we were dividable, and that we were easy to break apart. By keeping us together, it showed how strong the nation was, and what it was capable of.

My opinion on Thoreau's quote.

When Thoreau said, "that government is best which governs least" I think he meant that the government that gets least involved in the life of its people is the best one. If a government makes too many laws, then its people will be too controlled and might rebel. The government is better off if the people are pleased with the laws but they also have control over them so they are not free to do anything crazy. I do agree with his quote. If a government governs too much, then they won't be making their citizens happy about it.

Include everything.. For the sake of history...

Should countries leave pieces of their history out, especially that which is negative, when documenting these stories? Explain.

 Countries should not leave pieces of their history out. They should include everything that has happened even though they might be ashamed of it. Teaching children what is untrue will lead them to believe lies. If countries do not include a part of history in their documenting, then these countries are doing what is most wrong for their population of young kids. By this students will be unaware of their past, and from their country's mistakes. If they did know the truth about the past, they would have a whole different perspective about their country or other countries.

By this quote Voltaire meant that history is taught to us wrong since we are infants. Our teachers lied to us. We are taught lies to hide what really DID happen in the event.  What we know as history, is not what actually had happened, it is what they wanted us to believe and perceive, as history is told in the WINNERS points of view. Since we are all taught the same lies since we are infants, then we all agree upon it, as we grew up believing these lies.
